How Do You Know If You Need a Life Coach? 7 Signs It’s Time

Have you ever looked at your life and quietly wondered, is this it? Maybe on paper everything looks fine, and yet something feels off, stuck, or smaller than it should. If that quiet question keeps coming back, you are not alone, and it might be pointing you somewhere important.

A lot of people assume life coaching is only for those who are falling apart. It is not. Coaching is for people who are ready, ready to grow, to change something, or to finally stop putting something off. Below are seven honest signs it might be time to work with a life coach, drawn from what I see every day with my own clients.

What does a life coach actually do?

A life coach helps you get clear on what you want, uncover what is holding you back, and move forward with confidence, support, and a plan that fits who you really are.

Before we get to the signs, it helps to clear up what coaching is. A life coach is not a therapist digging into your past, and not a consultant handing you a checklist. I am a partner who helps you look forward, ask better questions, and clear the inner blocks standing between you and the life you want. The answers come from you. My job is to hold space and ask the questions that help them surface. Now, let’s look at the signs.

1. You feel stuck, even though nothing is technically wrong

You have a good life by most measures, and still you feel like you are going through the motions. Feeling stuck in a rut is one of the most common reasons people reach out, and it doesn’t have to mean anything is wrong with you. It can show you are ready for more and are not sure how to get there. A coach helps you name what is going on and find your way forward.

2. You keep setting the same goals and never reaching them

Every year, or every Monday, you promise yourself this is the time. You will make the change, have the hard conversation, grow the business, finally follow through. And then you do not. This is not laziness or a lack of willpower. Motivation without structure and support rarely sticks. A coach helps you understand why you keep stalling and builds a path that actually works for you.

3. You are going through a big transition

A career shift. A new season of life. Kids leaving, a business changing, a relationship ending or beginning. Even good transitions can leave you feeling unsteady and unsure of your next step. A life coach helps you navigate the uncertainty, make decisions from your values instead of your fear, and build a clear vision for what comes next.

4. You have lost clarity on what you actually want

Somewhere between everyone else’s needs and the daily grind, your own wants got quiet. When someone asks what you really want, you draw a blank. Coaching creates the space to reconnect with your own desires and priorities, so you can make decisions with confidence instead of second-guessing every turn.

5. Your confidence has taken a hit

Maybe you used to feel sure of yourself and lately you just do not. You hesitate, you play small, you talk yourself out of things before you even start. Confidence is not something you are born with or without. It is built, and it can be rebuilt. Together we clear the beliefs quietly draining it, so you can show up sure of your worth again.

6. You are stressed, stretched thin, or heading toward burnout

You are carrying a lot, and the weight is starting to show. The stress leaks into your work, your relationships, and your sleep. A coach helps you set boundaries, manage the mental load, and find a calmer, steadier way to move through your days, so you can keep showing up as the person your people count on without running yourself into the ground.

7. You know you would move faster with support

You are capable and driven, and part of you knows you could get there sooner with a thinking partner in your corner. You are tired of trying to figure it all out alone. That instinct is worth trusting. An outside perspective and steady accountability can be the difference between another year of almost and a year of real change.

Do you need to have a specific problem to hire a life coach?

No. You do not need a crisis or a perfect plan to benefit from coaching. The willingness to grow is the only real prerequisite.

This is the piece people miss most. You do not have to wait until things fall apart, and you do not have to wait until you have it all figured out. In fact, the stuck, stretched, at-a-crossroads moments are often the very best time to begin. If part of you is curious enough to be reading this, that curiosity is usually your answer.

How do you know if life coaching is right for you?

If you recognized yourself in even one or two of these signs, coaching could help. The best way to know for sure is a no-pressure conversation with a coach.

You do not have to say yes to anything today. Helping people embrace their gifts and clear the old patterns that keep them stuck is my true calling, and the joy I feel watching someone move from stuck to momentum is hard to put into words. If any of these signs felt like they were describing you, I would love to talk and simply explore what might be possible. No pressure, just an honest conversation about where you are and where you want to go.

Bobbi-Jo Plamondon

I'm Bobbi-Jo, a life coach trained through iPEC (Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching), one of the most rigorous coach training programs in the world. My work focuses on personal growth and mindset — helping people who feel stuck, unfulfilled, or disconnected from their own lives rediscover their sense of direction and possibility. Before stepping into coaching, I spent nearly two decades as a cosmetologist, building deep trust with clients one conversation at a time. I then transitioned into real estate, where I've spent over 17 years guiding people through some of the most significant decisions of their lives. Both careers taught me the same truth: people don't just need expertise — they need someone who will truly listen, ask the right questions, and believe in their potential even when they can't. That's what I bring to coaching. If you're ready to stop going through the motions and start living with intention, I'd love to connect.
