What Is the Energy Leadership Index (ELI) Assessment? And Who It Can Help

Most of us go through our days without ever stopping to ask a simple question: how is my energy actually shaping my life? We push through the hard weeks, react to whatever comes at us, and wonder why we feel stuck, drained, or stretched thin. What if you could see exactly how you show up, in black and white, and then change it?

That is what the Energy Leadership Index, or ELI, makes possible. As a life coach trained in iPEC’s Core Energy Coaching™ method, the ELI is one of the most powerful tools I get to share with my clients. In this post I will walk you through what the ELI assessment is, how it works, what the seven levels of energy mean, and who benefits most from taking it.

What is the Energy Leadership Index (ELI) assessment?

The Energy Leadership Index (ELI) is a research-backed attitudinal assessment that measures how you currently perceive and show up in your life and work, both day to day and under stress.

The ELI was developed by iPEC, the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching, and it is available only through a certified coach. Unlike tools that sort you into a fixed category, the ELI captures your current mindset and the energy you bring to everything you do. It takes something that usually feels abstract, the way you see the world, and turns it into something you can actually see, understand, and shift.

In short, it is a clear mirror. It reflects how you are showing up right now, how stress affects you, and where you have the power to change. And because it measures your current attitudes rather than a permanent personality type, the results are not a life sentence. They are a starting point.

How is the ELI different from personality tests like Myers-Briggs or Enneagram?

Personality tests describe fixed traits you work around. The ELI is attitudinal, so it measures how you currently show up and can change, not a permanent type.

You have probably taken a personality test like Myers-Briggs, DiSC, StrengthsFinder, or the Enneagram. These are wonderful for understanding your natural traits and playing to your strengths. But they tend to take a work-with-what-you-have approach, describing who you are and leaving it there.

The ELI is different. Instead of labeling you as a type, it looks at how you are perceiving and approaching your life right now, which means it can shift. That is genuinely good news. It means the patterns holding you back are not fixed parts of your personality. They are current habits of thought and energy, and with awareness and support, they can change, sometimes surprisingly quickly.

How does the ELI assessment work?

You complete a short online assessment in about twenty minutes, then meet with your coach for a personal debrief that unpacks your results and what they mean for you.

The process is simple and comfortable:

●      You take the assessment online, on your own time. It takes around twenty minutes and there is nothing to study or prepare.

●      The questions look at how you respond to everyday situations, and how that response changes when you are under stress.

●      We then meet for a personal debrief, where I walk you through your results and we talk honestly about what they reveal.

●      Together we turn those insights into real, doable next steps for the areas of your life you most want to shift.

One important thing to know: this is not a test. There is no good or bad score, and there is no way to fail. It is simply a snapshot of where your energy is today, and a doorway to where you want to go.

What do your ELI results reveal?

Your results show your average energy day to day and how it shifts under stress, revealing the patterns quietly driving your reactions and results.

The ELI gives you two key pictures. The first is how you show up on a normal day. The second, and often the most eye-opening, is how your energy changes when stress hits. So many of my clients have an honest aha moment when they see their stress response, suddenly understanding why they snap, shut down, or spin in certain situations.

Once you can see the pattern, you get something you did not have before: choice. And choice is where real freedom begins. This is the heart of Core Energy Coaching™, finding the thoughts and reactions that keep you stuck, then shifting the energy underneath them for lasting change.

Who can benefit from the ELI assessment?

The ELI helps anyone feeling stuck, stressed, or ready for growth, and it is especially powerful for people navigating change, leadership, or big goals.

Because it meets you wherever you are, the ELI is remarkably versatile. It tends to be especially valuable if you are:

●      Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you are always reacting instead of choosing.

●      Moving through a big transition in your work, relationships, or personal life.

●      A leader or business owner who wants to show up with more calm and clarity.

●      A high achiever with big goals who has run low on energy to reach them.

●      Curious about personal growth but unsure where to begin.

If any of that sounds like you, the ELI can be the clarity-giving first step. It shows you what is really going on beneath the surface, so the growth work has a clear place to start.

Is the ELI assessment backed by research?

Yes. The ELI is grounded in research and recognized as one of the top-rated assessments for leaders, used by coaches around the world.

If you are wondering whether this is grounded or a bit woo-woo, it is genuinely grounded. The ELI is research-backed, developed through study of human behavior and psychology, and it has been recognized by Forbes among the assessments worth taking. It is trusted and used by coaches and leaders all over the world, which is part of why I feel so confident bringing it to my own clients.

How do you take the ELI assessment?

The ELI is available only through an iPEC certified coach, who provides the assessment and guides you through a personal debrief of your results.

Because the real value lives in the debrief, the ELI is not something you take alone off the internet. It is offered through a certified coach who helps you understand and use what it reveals. I offer the ELI assessment along with a personal debrief, both on its own and as part of my six-month coaching program, so you can choose the path that fits you best.

I believe we have far more control over our experience than we realize. The ELI is one of the clearest ways I know to show you that truth in your own life, and to hand you the power to shift. If you are ready to see how you are really showing up, and to choose something new, I would love to guide you through it.

I'm Bobbi-Jo, a life coach trained through iPEC (Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching), one of the most rigorous coach training programs in the world. My work focuses on personal growth and mindset — helping people who feel stuck, unfulfilled, or disconnected from their own lives rediscover their sense of direction and possibility. Before stepping into coaching, I spent nearly two decades as a cosmetologist, building deep trust with clients one conversation at a time. I then transitioned into real estate, where I've spent over 17 years guiding people through some of the most significant decisions of their lives. Both careers taught me the same truth: people don't just need expertise — they need someone who will truly listen, ask the right questions, and believe in their potential even when they can't. That's what I bring to coaching. If you're ready to stop going through the motions and start living with intention, I'd love to connect.
